Diet Myths 9 and 10 and the Solution!

On to the last of my Diet Myths today.

Myth #9 Never eat at night

Fact: Calories can’t tell the time!

It’s not important when you eat them, it’s how many calories you consume that counts.

You may get indigestion if you eat a large meal late at night, but it won’t ruin your diet.

Actually, you won’t get a good night’s rest if you go to bed hungry so it’s often best to save a small amount of calories until later in the day.

Remember, I am advocating the plan whereby you will eat several small meals each day, so that eating one of these meals or snacks in the evening is a sensible part of that plan.

Very often, the evening is probably the time when you can relax and really enjoy your meal.

Your time is your own, so plan your days to suit yourself, don’t be bullied by old ways of thinking.

Myth #10 No snacking between meals

Fact: As long as they are small snacks, it does not matter.

Some people do not trust themselves to snack between meals and so they stick to 3 larger meals.

This is not a good plan overall because your metabolism is not kept to the optimum level.

Eating 2 or 3 slightly larger meals, interspersed by 2 or 3 smaller snacks is much more sensible and, as I have shown, this works to a much greater extent.

What counts is the total number of calories, so you are now permitted to snack and still remain on target with your plan.

Diet Myths 7 and 8




Hi everyone,

Here are some more porkies for you to recognize, when you see them.

Myth #7: Exercise alone will keep you trim

Fact: Exercising alone is not enough

You’ll find that if you eat large meals, you will not be able to
burn-off enough calories to compensate.

A medium slice of apple pie is 500 calories and to burn them off,
you would need to walk briskly for two hours.

So, you need to remember that to lose weight, you also need to reduce your caloric intake.

Myth #8: Don’t weigh yourself

Fact: You need to weigh yourself regularly.

This is so that you can keep a check on your weight.

At least once per. week is best but it does not hurt to weigh
once per day, at least you can put things right quickly then.
To get a good indication, weigh yourself at the same time of the day.

Your clothes are a good indication, of course, but you should
keep a check to make sure that things are not getting out of hand.

If you do not have a scale then go to your GP and remember,
sometimes it can be good news, as well as bad!

Diet Myths 3 and 4




Hi, everyone,

Today, I’ll tell you a little bit more about the untruths that surround this massive industry.

Myth #3: You must eat three times a day — don’t snack

Fact: It’s better to eat 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day, as I have proved myself. This could be seen as being 3 smaller meals and 2 or 3 snacks.

As long as you stick to a smaller total daily caloric intake when trying to lose weight, several smaller meals are better than fewer larger ones because they keep your metabolism burning at an optimum rate.

However, you should have at least three meals a day. This is because they structure your daily eating plan, so you don’t become too hungry, causing you to overeat.

Myth #4: Carbohydrates make you fat

Fact: Some Carbs are necessary for a balanced diet.

Carbohydrates DO NOT make you fat. Too many WILL, just as too many calories make you fat.

Once again, you need to eat carbs. in moderation when trying to lose weight, although the experts say that the optimum diet should actually include 55% of carbohydrates.

A lot of carbs. are processed and don’t give you the same lasting feeling of fullness that you get from unprocessed carbs., which contain lots of fibre.

e.g. Processed white pasta does not keep you satisfied for as long as wholegrain pasta does, even though they both contain the same amount of calories.

There’s often a lot of sugar contained in carbohydrates and you need to watch what additives you use with your carbs. For example, we very often put loads of sauce and butter on carbs.

In my next few blogs, I will talk about 10 of the biggest Diet Myths, discussing the best ways to avoid them
and for you to lose weight successfully.

Myth #1: You don’t have to count calories
Fact: Of course, on some diets, counting calories can be very important

When following Calorie-Controlled diets, You definitely need to count calories in order to lose weight.

People tend to overestimate their physical activity and underestimate their calories.

Don’t rely on guessing your caloric intake or trying to estimate it.

The best way to do this, you’ll find, is by following this plan:-

Every day, write down what you eat, the corresponding no. of calories, and your physical activity.

Do this every day, not just once or twice, but regularly.

It may seem a chore at first, but it will soon get to be second nature.

If you stick to the plan, the rewards will follow, when you see that you are consistently losing weight.

Of course, another important thing to remember is that some foods contain more calories than others, depending on whether they’re fats, proteins or carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates and protein have the same no. of calories per ounce.

Fat, on the other hand, has twice as many, so you should eat fatty foods — dairy products, skin on meat, fatty meats — only in moderation, when on a calorie contolled diet.

However, you want to limit your intake of fat, but you don’t want to stop eating fat altogether.

Fat increases your sense of fullness and warmth. Your body also needs a small amount of fat to function.

Fat is part of our cell structure. The body can’t make some essential fatty acids on its own,
so it needs to obtain them from an outside source.

Myth #2: Always eat breakfast first thing
Fact: Eat some time during the morning

If you wake up at 7 a.m., you don’t have to immediately eat a big breakfast.
You’re probably not even hungry right after you wake up and you don’t have to jump start your metabolism.

You simply have to structure your eating throughout the day, so you’re not too hungry later on.

It’s best to eat within three hours of waking. If you get up at 7 a.m., eat something by 10 a.m.
Have some yogurt or a piece of fruit.

If you don’t eat in the morning, you will be too hungry when you finally have a meal, and then you’ll likely overeat.

Remember, what counts is your total daily calories.
